Dengue Fever in Dominican Republic (Update)

16 Nov 2015

The Ministry of Health for Dominican Republic has reported around 11 359 suspected cases of dengue fever in the country since the beginning of the year (2015). This number of cases is the highest reported in several years. The worst affected areas include Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Santiago and La Vega.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
