Yellow Fever in Ghana

The media in Ghana has reported on a statement issued by the Ministry of Health confirming an outbreak of yellow fever in West Gonja district in the Northern Region of the country. As of 6 January 2016, a total of 12 suspected cases of yellow fever including 3 fatalities have been recorded.

Further information and confirmation by WHO is awaited.

Advice for Travellers

There is a risk of yellow fever in Ghana and vaccination is advised for all travellers (unless contraindicated). A yellow fever vaccination certificate is also required for travellers to Ghana over 9 months of age.

Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites at all times.
