The Fujian Province Health & Family Planning Commission has reported 3 new cases of yellow fever in worker returning from Angola.

The first case is a 42-year-old, male from Datian County, Sanming City in Fujian Province who was on business in Luanda. The second case is a 36-year-old female, from Fuqing City, Fuzhou Municipality, Fujian Province, who was in Luanda on business. The third case is a 53-year-old female also from Fuqing City who was in Luanda on business.

Advice for Travellers

There is no yellow fever circulating in China, however, the vector mosquito (Aedes aegypti) is present and there is a risk that yellow fever virus could be introduced into the mosquito population if a patient, viraemic with yellow fever was to be bitten by a mosquito. The dengue fever season begins in July in this part of China.

For this reason China has a YF certificate requirement: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers over 9 months of age arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission and for all travellers having transited through the airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.
