The 1 December 2017 is World AIDS Day

24 Nov 2017

Each year World AIDS Day is marked on 1 December 2017. The theme of World AIDS Day this year is

My Health, My right.

Everyone has the right to health which requires access to adequate sanitation and healthy nutrition, healthy working conditions and access to justice. Ending the AIDS pandemic can only happen if these rights are placed at the centre of global health.

  • Prevention programmes reduced the number of HIV infections per year to 2.1 million, a 35% decrease since 2000
  • Improved access to and use of antiretroviral therapy has reduced the number of people dying from HIV by 45% since 2005
  • World leaders have set the “Fast-Track” targets to end AIDS by 2030.
