Landslides in Peru (Cusco Region)

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued an alert to UK travellers warning them of travel difficulties due to severe weather conditions in Peru.

Heavy rains which began on 22 January 2010 have caused major landslides in the Sacred Valley, Cusco Region. Ninety four UK travellers have been stranded, although many have already been evacuated by the Peruvian authorities. The FCO consular team in Peru are not aware of any injured UK travellers or any fatalities.

Those planning to travel to the Cusco Region or Machu Picchu in Peru should contact their Tour Company for further information and check with the FCO for the latest travel advice.
