Dengue Fever in Tanzania (Update)

The outbreak of dengue fever in the capital city of Dar es Salaam is ongoing. One media report puts the number of cases at 400 including 3 related deaths. The increase in dengue fever cases was first identified in December 2013 and cases have continued to be reported.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
